She hails from Chihuahua Mexico but has called High River home, with her family, for the past ten years. Let us introduce to you Laura Suarez. She works with the FCIS (Foothills Community Immigrant Services) Team in High River helping new Canadian families get situated and learn about the community.
What is your favorite thing about High River? “My favorite thing about High River is the RIVER! High River is the place l always dreamed to live and to raise my children. A place where you can go for a walk and everyone is friendly. Where there is no danger and beautiful trees. After living in High River for 10 years this is my favorite spot in the world.”
What do you feel most proud of in your life? “In my life l feel proud of leaving my comfort zone in Mexico to move to a new country to start a new life. It was very hard to leave everyone and everything behind. So, I’m very happy for all I have in Canada.”
What skill would you like to learn? “I would love to learn how to write a book and also how to speak French.”
If you could help change something in High River, what would it be? “I would like to bring attractions on Sundays. I’d build a little park or plaza on centre street and 3rd avenue where people can get together, eat an ice cream and have a shoe shiner for their boots.”
Thank you Laura for all you do in our community and we appreciate having you and your family here!
