Five Summer Fun Things To Do In High River

With Summer half-way through there is still lots of time to get the family out for fun in High River.  Although there are many things to do in our town, we complied a Top Five list to get you started.

  1. The Highwood River

This amazing river that runs through High River originates in the Rockies and is full of recreational opportunities.  From fly-fishing, to relaxing, to swimming, to boating or tubing/rafting.  Many families take an opportunity to beat the heat with dip in the river.  There are a few spots to park and walk down to the river within the community and just outside of town.  With a friendly reminder to be water-wise and use lifejackets.

  1. Spray Park

Situated in the NW side of our community, the spray park is loads of fun for the whole family.  It’s open daily from 11am-7pm (as long as it’s 18+ degrees celsius). Plus – it’s FREE! Bring a picnic and spend the day!

  1. George Lane Park

A park with multiple possibilities.  There is a full campground within this lush downtown forested park.   You can also partake in the day use picnic area, playground, ball diamond, pathways and gazebo that is hopping with live music on Sundays throughout the summer.

But while you’re here…if you’re family loves playgrounds there are 13 other ones throughout the community to check out.

  1. Family Fun Fridays

The Museum of the Highwood hosts these free fun events on Friday afternoons from 1pm-4pm in the Summer.  Crafts, games, fun and little history at the same time.  Plus, if your family is fan of movies and television shows – like Heartland – this is a hub of High River film history.  While you’re here you can pick up some High River Home of Heartland merchandise and take a stroll up the street to see Maggie’s Diner from the set of the show.

  1. High River’s Nature

We have 28km (19km of them paved) of walking and cycling paths in High River.  The Happy Trails will take you through all many different types of areas set along the Highwood River and through the many parks and greenspaces found in town, the Happy Trails provide a picturesque and environmental alternative for navigating High River.
